The Yale Climate Initiative (YCI) began as a student-initiated study to identify, evaluate, and understand the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from Yale University's operations.
YCI has grown into a larger initiative with two goals:
· Educate the Yale community about the University's climate impact
· Evaluate Yale's options for reducing its GHG emissions.

In 2002, Yale University operations were responsible for approximately 292,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent.
The average Yale student produces 13 tons of CO2 per year.
13 Tons is 173 times the average person’s weight in CO2 released into the atmosphere.
